The recently published decree to reform the Independent High Authority for the Elections (ISIE) risks reducing its independence at an important political moment and shortly before key electoral events for Tunisia.
The European Union considers that the independence of the high authority is a crucial element in guaranteeing the credibility of an electoral process which is intended to lead to a return to institutional normality in the country.

The EU also recalls the importance of the implementation of any reform as well as the electoral calendar on the basis of an inclusive dialogue of all political and social actors in order to guarantee the stability and prosperity of Tunisia.
