The project of rehabilitation and extension of Gabes prison was inaugurated on 15 November by Minister of Justice Mohamed Karim Jamoussi, in the presence of representatives of the EU Delegation to Tunisia, the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), local authorities, the prison’s administration and the civil society of the region.
The project was implemented since 2014 with a budget of €2.8 million. It was funded by the European Union in the framework of PARJ, the Support Programme to Justice Reform.
PARJ aims at reinforcing the independence and impartiality of the judiciary and modernising the infrastructure and equipment. It also seeks to enhance the quality and efficiency of justice while making it more accessible to the citizens.
