The European Commission published, on Wednesday 23 March, 2016 a factsheet on the implementation of the “European Agenda on Security” adopted on 28 April 2015, which sets out the main actions envisaged to ensure an effective EU response to security threats over the period 2015-2020. It presents in detail some actions that have been completed since the adoption of the European Agenda in several areas, for example terrorism, border management, cross border cooperation and firearms.

The factsheet also explains the concept behind the fight against radicalisation and how the establishment of the EU Internet Referral Unit (IRU) at Europol aims to help reduce the volume of terrorist material online. On the external dimension, the Commission has also taken “action, in close cooperation with the External Action Service and the EU Counter Terrorism Coordinator, to ensure further coherence between internal and external actions in the field of security.
