On 5-7 November, eight representatives from the Palestinian General Administration for Borders and Crossings (GABC) visited the National Centre for coordination of Border Crossing Points (CEFRONT) and the Command and Control Centre in Adolfo Suarez Madrid-Barajas Airport in Spain.

This visit came as part of a comprehensive plan aimed at building the capacities of the border organizations working under the umbrella of GABC for a better protection of the State’s borders.

The participants visited the command and control center at Madrid Barajas Airport and learnt about the advanced border security methods that help identify and combat border-related threats, including but not limited to crimes and illegal migration using modern systems and technologies.

Together with the Palestinian delegation was Mr. Florin Bulgariu, EUBAM Rafah’s Integrated Border Management (IBM) Expert who worked closely with the concerned Spanish Authorities and the Palestinian Mission in Madrid to make the most out of this visit.

The European Union Border Assistance Mission at the Rafah Crossing Point – code name EUBAM Rafah – was launched in November 2005 to monitor the operations of the border crossing point between the Gaza Strip and Egypt, after Israel and the Palestinian Authority concluded an Agreement on Movement and Access on 15 November 2005.
