NET-MED Youth Day was celebrated on 28 February in Gaza City. The event gathered policy and decision makers, including the Minister of Education and Higher Education, Dr Sabri Saidam, Head of the European Union Office in Gaza, Mr. Ayman Fteiha, universities and academic institutions, youth organisations, students from different universities in Gaza, UN agencies and national and international organisations, in order to establish a platform of dialogue and policy debate among youth and key actors working in the field in Palestine.

Three roundtable discussions presented several key and unique studies carried out and produced by the EU-funded NET-MED Youth project, highlighting youth issues concerning policy and decision-making, media representation, employment, and civic participation.

Since 2014, NET-MED Youth has been helping young women and men develop their competencies, claim and exercise their rights, and meaningfully engage as active citizens, particularly in decision-making relating to youth policies. In addition, NET-MED Youth aims to engage young people developing their attitudes and behaviours towards human rights.

UNESCO Representative to Palestine, Dr. Lodovico Folin Calabi, recalled how NET-MED Youth has empowered young Palestinian women and men to be full participants in building their own communities and to be agents of positive transformations in Palestine. He further highlighted the achievements made by the NET-MED Youth project with regards to mainstreaming youth issues in Palestine, especially on a decision making level.

NET-MED Youth aims to improve the access and effective participation of young people in mainstreaming their priorities into legislation and national planning in the Southern Mediterranean Partner countries. Specifically, it aims to build the capacities of youth organisations in ENP South countries and to enhance networking among them in order to reduce the fragmentation of efforts and harness the collective potential of young people in achieving democratic transition towards active citizenship, political participation and social inclusion.
