The European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) organized a training on Port State Control in Morocco on 7-11 October 2019, within the EU-funded SAFEMED IV project. 14 inspectors from the Merchant Marine Directorate participated in the training.

Port State Control (PSC) is the inspection of foreign flagged vessels to ensure compliance with the international standards for safety, pollution prevention and response, and labour conditions on board vessels.

The EMSA lecturers provided a thorough overview of the various PSC phases, from pre-boarding to disembarking. Such bilateral activities allow a direct contact between staff of the beneficiary countries maritime administration and EMSA staff aiming at improving technical capabilities as well as on-the-job skills.

The European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) is implementing SAFEMED IV project for technical assistance bringing together national, European and international stakeholders with the aim to raise the safety, security and protection of marine environment standards in the Mediterranean sea, with a view to implement the maritime aspects of the UfM Regional Transport Action Plan 2014-2020.
