The European Union Delegation issues the following statement in agreement with the EU Heads of Mission in Jordan:
From 8 to 12 January 2018, following approval by the Government of Jordan, the United Nations undertook a delivery of humanitarian assistance to the Syrian people stranded in the Rukban area, which reached 9.740 families – i.e. around 49.000 people.
The European Union Delegation welcomes the approval of the UN distribution plan by the Government of Jordan and its cooperation in facilitating the operation.
The humanitarian situation at the Syrian-Jordanian berm is critical. The provision of humanitarian assistance to address the needs of approximately 50,000 population is essential.
