EU funds relief to flood victims in Egypt amid coronavirus outbreak

In response to the severe weather and ensuing floods that hit Egypt from 12 March 2020 onwards, the European Commission has allocated €100,000 for relief to over 12,000 people in the most affected areas.

Continued rains, heavy winds and flash floods over several days resulted in widespread damage to infrastructure and left at least 40 people dead. In Cairo, Giza, Beni Suef and Faiyum governorates, close to 3,000 people had to relocate to 19 evacuation centres where many of them remain today.
