EU Election Observation mission in Tunisia : well-organized legislative elections

The legislative elections of 6 October took place in an orderly manner. The voting procedures and the transparency measures have been properly implemented, noted the EU Election Observation Mission in Tunisia in a statement published on 8 October. The Mission deployed 95 observers in 479 polling stations.

The Higher Independent Body for the Elections has successfully met the challenge of organising these legislative elections one week ahead of the second round of the presidential elections scheduled on 13 October, insisted EU Chief Observer Fabio Massimo Castaldo.

Among the audiovisual media monitored by the Mission, the public media respected the pluralist and fair coverage of the candidate lists, whereas the private media didn’t all guarantee the respect of these principles, especially Nessma TV which was not authorised to broadcast. The online campaign was characterised by an intense activity on the social networks and by persistent violations related to the dissemination of sponsored messages, prohibited during the legislative elections, which disadvantaged the lists respectful of the rules.
