EU Commissioner Johansson in Libya to discuss migration, border management and security

EU Commissioner for Home Affairs, Ylva Johansson, is in Tripoli to meet with Prime Minister, Abdul Hamid Mohammad Dbeiba, Minister of Interior, Khaled al Tijani Mazen and State Minister of State for Migration Ijdid Maatouk Jadeed.

Meeting her counterparts in the Government of National Unity, Commissioner Johansson will discuss a range of issues including the support to the political process in Libya, migration and border management, protection and humanitarian assistance as well as security.

The EU is the largest provider of assistance in Libya, with a package of around €700 million for the 2014-2020 period, in fields such as human development, good governance, entrepreneurship, youth empowerment, human rights, COVID-19 response or migration management. Most of the EU’s support for Libya, €455 million, comes from the EU Emergency Trust Fund for Africa
