Creative Europe, the European programme for the support of culture and creation, has just selected Medinea (MEDIterranean Network for Emerging Artists) as part of a call for transnational cooperation projects linked to the European Year of cultural heritage 2018. Medinea is among the 29 selected projects and will receive a grant of €200,000.

Medinea is the Mediterranean network led by the “Festival d’Aix-en-Provence”. Active in 18 countries in the Mediterranean basin, it links some thirty festivals, cultural centres, music trade fairs and higher learning institutions. Medinea supports the professional integration of young Mediterranean musicians by developing intercultural projects that promote dialogue, communication and mobility in the Mediterranean.

The Medinea project includes a series of activities carried out by three of its members: the Festival d’Aix, the “Centre culturel international de Hammamet” (Tunisia) and the “Ente Musicale di Nuoro” (Italy). These activities aim to enhance the Mediterranean basin’s musical heritage through collective and intercultural musical creation and to show how and why heritage can inspire contemporary creation.

Between June 2018 and May 2020, training courses for young musicians from all over the Euro-Mediterranean area will be organized in Hammamet, Nuoro and Aix-en-Provence over the next two years.

First session in Nuoro in August, coming up!

Creative Europe is the European Commission’s framework programme for support to the culture and audiovisual sectors. It follows on from the previous Culture Programme and MEDIA programme with a budget of €1.46 billion. Tunisia is the only country of the EU Southern Neighbourhood to be member of Creative Europe.
