In line with the European Green Deal agenda and the Paris Agreement, the EU aims at supporting Southern Neighbourhood cities in their energy and climate transition, in particular through the implementation of their Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plans (SECAPs).

As of today, a few cities have already been able to implement a limited part of their SECAP on their own budget. However, no SECAP has been implemented in its entirety, which justifies the need for additional efforts. To this end, a new 'Climate for Cities' Call for Proposals is launched, covering Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Palestine, Syria and Tunisia. It builds directly on the achievements of CES-MED and Clima-MED projects, by supporting and accelerating the funding of SECAPs and similar initiatives aimed at increasing climate resilience and sustainable use of natural resources at local level.

The global objective of the Climate for Cities’ Call for Proposals is to contribute to sustainable human development by promoting a transition towards greener and climate-resilient cities in the Southern Neighbourhood, in line with countries’ commitments under the Paris Agreement, and making optimum use of climate finance intruments.

The Climate for Cities (C4C) Programme aims to promote the transition towards greener and climate-resilient cities in the Southern Neighbourhood, in line with countries’ commitments under the Paris Agreement. The programme will support the implementation of Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan (SECAPs) and comparable local level plans aimed at increasing climate resilience and sustainable use of natural resources.
