Around a hundred experts and cultural actors in the field of translation gathered in the Slovenian municipality of Piran to participate in the “Translation for Dialogue” Conference, co-organised by the Anna Lindh Foundation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia and the Euro-Mediterranean University (EMUNI).
“Translation for Dialogue” is the first high-level conference of its kind in the Euro-Med region. It focused on the central role of translation in the current emerging socio cultural challenges in the region and involved all the stakeholders of the “translation chain” – publishers, authors, academics, libraries, translators, civil society organisations, foundations, public and private institutions – to showcase, debate and advocate for translation as a central tool for intercultural dialogue.
On the occasion of the conference, the “Manifesto for Translation” was launched to support translation as bridge for common understanding in the region, and the Euro-Med Translation for Dialogue Roadmap with concrete initiatives, identified funds and renewed platforms for translation.
The Anna Lindh Foundation for Inter-Cultural Dialogue promotes knowledge, mutual respect and inter-cultural dialogue between the people of the Euro-Mediterranean region, working through a network of more than 3,000 civil society organisations in 43 countries.
