In response to the 4.9 magnitude earthquake that hit the eastern region of Algeria last August, the European Union announced a humanitarian funding of 90,000 euros to help the families most affected by the earthquake.

This funding intended for the Algerian Red Crescent will bring an essential emergency aid, including first aid items, food supplies and non-food items. Besides, tents, camp beds, blankets, mattresses and kitchen kits will also be provided.

The earthquake hit the province of Mila, 350 kilometres east of the capital Algiers. It caused considerable damage in different parts of the city, causing the population to flee in the streets. The earthquake did not cause any casualties, but many people were injured. At least 15000 people were affected in the whole province.
