Algeria : EU-funded programme on cultural heritage to hold its closing conference

The closing conference of the “Support Programme to the Protection and Valorisation of Cultural Heritage in Algeria” will take place on 18 June in Algiers, Algeria.

The Algerian minister of Culture and the Ambassador of the EU to Algeria will open the event.

The objective of the conference is to present the achievements of the cooperation programme, especially those related to the methodology of the inventory of the cultural heritage, the intersectorality and the enhancement of heritage through pilot projects and association projects, the training of heritage actors in collaboration with the sector of vocational training and the activities related to the preservation of audiovisual heritage.

Apart from the presentation of the results, the aim is also to exchange on the possible collaborations in view of the full ownership of the achievements of the programme by the final beneficiaries.

The conference is intended for the actors of the Algerian cultural heritage and all the stakeholders involved in the implementation of the cooperation programme.

The PATRIMOINE programme has been implemented by the ministry of culture for five years. €21.5 million is the budget provided by the European Union for a better recognition of the cultural heritage as a tool for the economic and human development of Algeria. The programme has provided methodological tools, equipment and trainings in view of identifying, protecting and enhancing the Algerian heritage.
