Brussels Model European Union is an annual simulation of European politics and decision-making processes that aims to bring the European project closer to young people.
The aim of Brussels MEU is to increases dialogue and exchange of ideas between European youth and policy makers, and to promote the participation of young people in democratic society.
During one week in Brussels, 150 participants from more than 35 countries gather in a simulation of the European decision-making procedure and debate pressing topics on the EU agenda, taking on the role of Members of the European Parliament, Heads of State, Ministers in the Council, or journalists. As such, they play the roles of real policy makers and encounter all the difficulties and challenges required to make democracy funtion. By doing so, they explore and develop soft skills such as debating, negotiation, diplomatic language, public speaking and learn about Europe and Europeans through intercultural dialogue.
Every year we aim to host the Brussels MEU conferences in the premises of European institutions, inviting prominent speakers such as Members of the European Parliament or European Commissioners to address the participants before the debate. Through these activities we wish to share with our participants the reality of the EU decision-making, and give them an opportunity to have a concrete exchange with prominent policy makers.
Brussels MEU also encourages cross-border relations and intercultural dialogue, as more than 35 different nationalities come together in Brussels to debate and establish friendships that last a life time. We are glad to enjoy the support of the European Commission through the Erasmus+ fund.
