To mark Danube Day on 29 June, the European Union Water Initiative Plus for the Eastern Partnership (EUWI+) project participated in the Joint Danube Survey in the Ukrainian town of Kiliya.
The survey took the form of a comprehensive water sampling and was organised almost simultaneously in 13 countries, using the same EU methods to give a full picture of the “health” of the Danube River along its full course.
The study is being implemented by the International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River (ICPDR).
The EUWI+ project assists Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine to bring their legislation closer to EU policy in the field of water management, with a main focus on the management of transboundary river basins.
It supports the development and implementation of pilot river basin management plans, building on the improved policy framework and ensuring close participation from local stakeholders.
