At the end of March, the Georgian capital of Tbilisi will host an international conference on “Migration in the Media – Perceptions, Opportunities and Challenges”.
The event, aimed at bringing together Georgian and foreign journalists and media professionals, policymakers, scholars and researchers, will serve as a platform to discuss the link between media and migration in Georgia and the other Eastern Partner (EaP) countries, as well as the Member States of the EU.
The conference will focus on best practices in reporting on migration, high-quality investigative journalism, as well as existing challenges, opportunities and perceptions, including possible policy recommendations.
This two-day conference is envisaged as a unique opportunity for media representatives from Georgia and the other EaP countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine).
The event organisers have invited established and junior journalists/bloggers and other people working in the media to submit their articles, blog posts, videos, radio pieces and other journalistic works on the following topics: Diaspora and emigrant communities, legal and labour migration.
Pieces should have been produced in English, Russian or the national language of one of the EaP countries and be submitted to the organisers by 31 January 2019 to firstname.lastname@example.org. Articles/narratives/stories must have been officially published before 31 December 2018 in order to be eligible for submission.
The event will be organised within the EU-funded ENIGMMA 2 (Sustaining Georgia’s Migration Management) project, which is being jointly implemented by the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) and the Secretariat of the State Commission on Migration Issues.
The exact date of the event will be confirmed in due course.
