On 20 June, the town of Călărași in the Republic of Moldova hosted an Energy Day. The town is participating in the EU-funded “Covenant of Mayors – Demonstration Projects” initiative.
“Calarasi has become a signatory to the Covenant of Mayors Initiative in 2012 and since then together with thousands of European cities undertaken the obligation to reduce CO2 emissions by 42% by 2030,” said the Mayor of Călărași, Nicolae Melnic. “I hope that the current energy efficiency project will help us to reach these goals and to we become a smart city.”
Călărași celebrated its Energy Day by organising several events, including a new exhibition of lamps at the Museum of History and Ethnography, a drawing competition on energy, a new bicycle parking, as well as concert by the kindergartens in the city.
