Mogherini says progress in key reform areas needs to be made as she meets with Deputy Prime Minister of Moldova

On 23 January, the EU’s High Representative Federica Mogherini met with the newly-appointed Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration of the Republic of Moldova, Iurie Leanca.

According to an EU press release, they discussed the latest developments in EU-Moldova relations. Mogherini highlighted the importance of following the recommendations of international partners in key areas related to reforms and democracy in the country.

The EU press release also said it is closely following developments in the country with regard to the electoral framework, the media sector, and the major banking fraud unveiled in 2014.

Mogherini emphasised that the EU remains committed to the implementation of the Association Agreement, but that progress in key reform areas such as the judiciary and the fight against corruption needs to be made to unlock its benefits for all citizens of the Republic of Moldova.
