On 12 February, a workshop took place in Chișinău, the Republic of Moldova, to discuss the certification and unbundling of the electricity transmission system operator Moldelectrica, and the general developments in the country’s energy market.

The event was organised under the EU4Energy programme, and was attended by representatives from Moldelectrica and the National Energy Regulatory Agency (ANRE), as well as experts from the Energy Community. During the session, the participants agreed that the unbundling of Moldelectrica was top priority.

Moldelectrica applied for certification under the ownership unbundling model on 16 October 2018. On 11 June 2019, ANRE confirmed Moldelectrica’s compliance with the requirements of ownership unbundling, but based on the final decision of the Secretariat the request for certification was not approved. As a result, Moldelectrica withdrew its request for certification on 22 October 2019.
