On 6 September, the EU launched a new project, ‘BOMBEL-4’, to assist with the development of telecommunications infrastructure at the Belarus-Lithuania Border.

Worth over €3.7 million, the project will be implemented jointly by the EU, the State Border Committee of Belarus and the State Border Guard Service of the Ministry of the Interior of Lithuania.

‘BOMBEL-4’ is a logical follow-up to the previous ‘BOMBEL-3’ project, implemented in 2009-2011, which enabled the Belarus Border Service to create a modern communications and data transfer system along the Belarusian-Polish border.

By providing technical assistance with the telecommunications network, based on state-of-the-art technology and the use of high-capacity fibre-optic communication lines, the project will make a substantial contribution to improving the management of services along the border between the two countries.
