On 15 May, the Tbilisi Art Fair opened in the Georgian capital to promote contemporary product design as one of the key branches of industrial design in the country.

The exhibition has been organised under the Design Georgia brand with support from the EU and the country’s Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development.

The Tbilisi Art Fair provides an ideal setting to showcase contemporary Georgian product design as it focuses on the vibrant, emerging art scenes in the regions of the Black, Caspian and Baltic Seas and brings together collectors, curators and professional artists from around the world.

The participating designers include four members of the Georgian Furniture Cluster, as well as other designers whose works have been selected through the competition, with 16 designers and design studios in total. The competition was organised by Enterprise Georgia in collaboration with the Georgian Furniture Cluster and the works of applicants were selected by a special jury consisting of local and international experts in the area.

The Georgian Furniture Cluster unites 40 Georgian designers and furniture producers. It was established with the support of the EU-funded "SME Development and DCFTA in Georgia" project. The purpose of the cluster is to help individual entrepreneurs and companies overcome challenges by joining their efforts and resources, in order to bring furniture and interior designs from Georgia to Europe and beyond.
