On 3 August, an emergency medical team of six doctors from Italy arrived in Baku to help Azerbaijani medical staff in the fight against the coronavirus.
The team of two emergency doctors, an infectious disease expert, an anaesthesiologist and two nurses with experience in emergency management, will be assisting their Azerbaijani colleagues in the next two weeks. The support is coordinated and funded by the EU Civil Protection Mechanism. Italy is the first EU country to respond to Azerbaijan’s request for medical expertise.
Kestutis Jankauskas, head of the EU Delegation to Azerbaijan, said this assistance was a sign of the solidarity and partnership between Azerbaijan and the EU and served as an example of how the ‘Team Europe’ package worked in practice.
