On 9 July, an EU delegation arrived in Yerevan to discuss with Armenian stakeholders the reform process in the justice sector and EU’s support to this.
The delegation was led by Vassilis Maragos, Head of the Unit responsible for Armenia at the European Commission's Directorate General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations.
The delegation met the main interlocutors in charge of the reform. Several meetings took place jointly with the Council of Europe teams who cooperate on actions supporting the judiciary in Armenia.
All stakeholders agreed that coordination among all actors is key to ensuring the coherence of the sector strategy. The EU will continue sharing expertise, best practices and lessons learnt from reforms in other countries to help the process and ensure that civil society and professional associations are actively involved.
According to the EU, a number of operational next steps have been agreed, to which EU support will be provided.
