On 22 November, the EU, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Azerbaijan’s State Committee on Family, Women and Child Affairs launched the Gender-Based Municipal Academy in the country’s capital Baku.

The academy is a non-formal education platform for women to increase their knowledge and skills in areas such as local governance, leadership and election observation.

The main goal of the academy is to provide capacity-building and learning opportunities to help to increase the number of women running for municipal elections in December 2019.

The academy is part of a project promoting gender-inclusive municipalities for implementation of the sustainable development goals. This project is part of a larger EU-funded and UNDP-co-funded and implemented project that aims to promote the role of civil society and empower women in order to help to advance Agenda 2030.
