Relations between the EU and the Republic of Moldova have intensified in the past years and are based on the Association Agreement and Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (AA/DCFTA), which provide the foundations for far-reaching political and economic integration with the EU. The EU is Moldova’s main trading partner, representing over 50% of all trade. To help Moldova implement the Agreement, the EU supports political and economic reform in the country. The EU is also the biggest donor in Moldova, and has the objective of having a clear impact on the life of citizens. Cooperation focuses on strengthening the rule of law, as well as improving the business climate, in order to gain full advantage of the benefits of the DCFTA, and supporting greater connectivity between Moldova and the EU in the areas of energy and transport.
