Photo story: Alladin flies to the rescue of ancient theatres

The EU Neighbourhood Info Centre has released a photo story highlighting the achievements of an EU-funded project in preserving ancient theatres in the Mediterranean countries.

“Aladdin flies to the rescue of ancient theatres” is a book describing a modern adventure of the well-known character. Aladdin travels through five Mediterranean countries telling children about the importance of ancient monuments. The book was produced by the ATHENA project, under the Euromed Heritage IV Programme.

The photo story is based on a feature article published by the Info Centre.

The 1.45 minute video was put together using photos illustrating the activities of the project, with music and background information. The photos are also available in a special Photo gallery on the EU Neighbourhood Info Centre website.

The video is the latest in a series of resourcesillustrating EU support for culture in the EU’s Southern Neighbourhood today.

The Euromed Heritage (EH) programme has developed its actions within the European Union, but above all, in the Mediterranean partner countries of the EU: Algeria, occupied Palestinian territories, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Syria and Tunisia. Between 1998 and 2007, €57 million have been allocated for the financing of 32 projects involving entities and professionals working in the field of heritage around the Mediterranean. With a budget of €17 million, the most recent phase of the programme, Euromed Heritage 4, has just come to an end. EH4 financed 12 projects for the period 2008-2013. The specific objective of this phase was to support Mediterranean populations in the ownership of their cultural heritage at both national and regional levels, by facilitating their access to education and knowledge of their cultural heritage.
