EESC summit to address Euromed social and economic issues in the wake of the Arab Spring

Some 150 participants from a variety of economic and social councils, employers’ associations, trade unions and other economic and social interests groups, as well as from NGOs across the Euromed region will be attending the 2011 Euromed Summit of Economic and Social Councils and Similar Institutions.
 
The Summit, to take place in Istanbul, Turkey from 16 to 18 November, seeks to promote greater understanding of the main issues affecting organised civil society in the Euromed region and to enhance mutual awareness of economic and social realities. 
 
Following the events that the region witnessed this year, the summit will look into the policy response to the new environment in the Euromed region, the role and the future perspectives of civil society, and a number of other key issues for the Euromed region such as social dialogue, immigration and cooperation, renewable energies, rural development, entrepreneurship, innovation and the role of women in society. A number of high profile speakers and experts both from the partner countries in the region and the EU and will be attending.
