Lebanese foreign minister to chair EU-Lebanon Association Council, taking stock of progress in relations

The EU-Lebanon Association Council takes place in Brussels next week, on 18 July, taking stock of progress in the implementation of the EU-Lebanon Association Agreement and of the EU-Lebanon partnership priorities and compact agreed last November.

The meeting will be chaired by Lebanon’s Foreign Minister, Gebran Bassil. EU High Representative Federica Mogherini will lead the EU delegation.

The Association Council will review the state of EU-Lebanon bilateral relations. It will in particular exchange on some of the priority actions under the partnership priorities and compact, including:

  • growth and jobs
  • security and counterterrorism
  • governance and the rule of law
  • migration and mobility

Mogherini and Bassil will also discuss the consequences of the Syria crisis, as well as human rights and justice reform in Lebanon.
