Johannes Hahn, the EU’s Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, is in Tunisia today and tomorrow to reiterate the European Union’s commitment to support the Tunisian people on their path towards a modern democracy, based on fundamental freedoms and socio-economic development.

Commissioner Hahn will meet Tunisian leaders, including President Beji Caid Essebsi, Head of Government Youssef Chahed, Foregin Minister Khemaies Jhinaoui, and the President of the Assembly Mohamed Ennaceur.

The Commissioner will also participate in the signing of financing agreements on public administration reform and health programmes, and he will confirm adoption of the framework for financial and technical cooperation with Tunisia for the period 2017-2020.

This will focus on strengthening the rule of law and promoting good governance, increased support to implementation of economic reforms needed to restore macro-economic stability, attract investors and kick-start the Tunisian economy, and further promotion of social and regional cohesion by ensuring equitable access to quality social services throughout Tunisia.
