Brief Description

Founded in 1996, EuroMeSCo (the Euro-Mediterranean Study Commission) is the main network of research centres on politics and security in the Mediterranean, striving at building a community of research institutes and think tanks committed to strengthening Euro-Mediterranean relations. EuroMeSCo consistently ranks among the top 10 think tank networks in the world in the Global Go-To Think Tank Index Report of the Lauder Institute at the University of Pennsylvania.

The network currently comprises 106 institutes from 32 countries in the Euro-Mediterranean area (January 2018).

Countries covered: Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine, Tunisia and EU countries.

Objectives

EuroMeSCO’s core missions are:

- Research: EuroMeSCo is fostering influential analysis and reflection on Euro-Mediterranean politics and policies through joint research programmes involving EuroMeSCo institutes and researchers, and through its publications;

- Dialogue: Through numerous activities, such as annual conference, dialogue workshops and seminars, EuroMeSCo provides a platform for dialogue between the researchers from the network, experts and key stakeholders to discuss and debate the key trends and challenges on the region´s agenda; and

- Advocacy: EuroMeSCo aims at increasing the influence of think tanks and research institutes and actively contribute to policy shaping.

The EuroMeSCo Academic Secretariat coordinates the day-to-day functioning of the network. It is currently managed by the IEMed (European Institute of the Mediterranean), based in Barcelona, Spain.
