The EU Delegation to Armenia has participated in the testing of new voter authentication technology at the regional elections in Semyonovka (Gegharkunik region). The new technology will contribute to improving voter identification and preventing multiple voting and electoral irregularities.
Ahead of the Armenian parliamentary elections in 2017, the European Union is providing over EUR 7 million of support to increase the transparency, integrity, inclusiveness and effectiveness of the electoral process in Armenia.
The EU is providing financial support to authorities to implement the political agreement reached between the ruling coalition and the three opposition parties on the new Electoral Code under the new Constitution.
The EU hopes that the credibility of the electoral process will be further increased by the effective implementation of the new safeguards in line with the international standards and recommendations provided by the OSCE/ODIHR and Venice Commission.
